How to extend a rather grand historic hotel in the heart of the old city of Munich is a debate resonant in many historic cities across Europe. We were asked to study the problem as a way to understand a range of architectural possibilities.
Linedota's favoured solution shown here proposed a transverse lightweight steel section made from laser-cut steel plate. It gives the long thin building a strong structural rhythm at roof level. Suspended from the frames is an aerofoil roof suggesting flight, with glass walls suggesting openness.
